A Peek into my life (updated July 2009)...
Currently a senior at
Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, I am double majoring in Mechanical Engineering
and Biomedical Engineering, with the goal of designing and maintaining medical robots. My other interests include web technologies,
application programming, graphic design, and outdoor recreation.
I am vice president of the
CMU robotics club and work on the award-winning RobOrchestra team, a group of undergraduates striving to create a robotic orchestra of sorts. I've been a member
of the project for three years so far, and enjoy tackling the new tasks each semester brings. Since my freshman year I have been an officer of the CMU student section of
the
American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and have particpated in the annual Student Design competition.
Last year I led a 20 member design team as we created a "Mars Rover" for the spring competition. The project was a lot of fun and a great interdisciplinary experience with
students from many different majors. I am chairman of the ASME section this year, and hope to take a leadership role in the project again.
Site Beginnings
I started this site in 2001 as EduShope, a web portal designed to distribute information pertinent to techology and education, at the middle school,
high school, and college levels. As web technologies grew more advanced, the site became outdated and hard to manage. My time was spent on
robotics projects such as SIGMO, the passive-dynamic humanoid robot that won the 2006 Grand Champion award at the Franklin/Fulton County Science Fair.
A website was created for that project to document the evolution of SIGMO and to post relevant research from other institutions.
I maintained SIGMORobot.com for several years with huge success, getting thousands of hits from all around the world every month.
Unfortunately, that venture too came to a close, although the project itself is ongoing. As of 2008, I've combined all of my efforts into DanShope.com, which uses a custom grown
back-end
(Content Management System) for flexibility and simplicity of maintenance. With this new direction I hope to keep everyone posted on my robotics projects and other
hobbies, as well as providing information that is useful for web and application programmers; resources that I have found irreplaceable in my endeavours. I hope you will
find my content useful and reliable.
Come back again!
Check back soon as the site gets updated. If you want to know more about the site, or have any questions about the posted projects, shoot me a message!
